DAY FOR NIGHT

Day For Night is playing Cake Shop on 2/7/08!

DAY FOR NIGHT, one of New York’s finest up-and-coming rock outfits, will be taking the stage at Cake Shop Thursday Feburary 7th. Their self-titled EP is available online now.

Riding the crest of the movement incited by heavyweights such as My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, DFN’s heady soundscapes are also studded with post-punk influences. A sonic armature is built in equal parts by Kali Holloway’s bold and jazz-tinged vocals, Bill Kovalcik’s thundery, focused drums, and the boundlessness of Keith Ehrlich’s drop-tuned guitar. Their hyper-animated live performances have been whipping audiences accustomed to the comforts of shoegazing to new levels of attention; in other words, don’t be surprised to be danced-into at one of their shows.

Since releasing their self-titled EP in 2007, DFN has been making heads turn all over the press. With songs available on iTunes, eMusic, and Rhapsody (including editors’ picks on the latter two), the band is adeptly focusing their efforts on the future of the music, aka the digital revolution. Planetary Group has selected one of DFN’s songs for their upcoming “Stranded in Stereo” CD sampler, and The Fader (Cornerstone) will be featuring the gorgeous track “Badlands” on their upcoming compilation, to be released just before SxSW. eMusic will also host the band on their 2008 Austin showcase, not to be missed by those planning to make the Texas pilgrimage this spring. A summer tour is in the works.

Come see for yourself why people are saying what they are saying, and why Day For Night is not part of the musical ephemera.

“When Kali Holloway isn’t busy singing for NYC’s The Affair, posing in Vice or kicking hipster ass, she can be found lending her sultry vocal prowess to Day for Night. Their debut EP begins with the dark and moody ‘Silver Beach,’ a powerhouse of pulsing rhythms, washed-out guitars and Holloway’s beautifully strong vocals. But it’s the winding feedback and soaring melodies of ‘Badlands’ that blend the best of early-‘90s shoegazing with post-punk-tinged vocals reminiscent of a young Debbie Harry.” —Eric Shea, Rhapsody

"The Day For Night EP is a stunning debut; it's as though Day For Night emerged from the womb fully formed, taking up where a host of gloomy 4AD bands left off." — Amelia Raitt, eMusic

Day For Night, a three-piece from New York, is just what I'm looking for, an aggressive shake out of the spell of lethargic, grey-skyed afternoons. . . . At only three songs, their self-titled EP registers more of an impression than you'd expect, delivering just as much muscle and velocity with later listens and capturing a lot of the energy and fire of a live performance.” —Nerd Litter
