DESOLATION WILDERNESS TO RELEASE 7" SINGLE AND NEW FULL-LENGTH ON K RECORDS

Desolation Wilderness has recorded two new songs, as a 7" single titled No Tomorrow (May 19), to connect last years debut album White Light Strobing to their next full length (August 4).

"No Tomorrow" is a tribute to summer days well spent, living in the moment, never growing old. Desolation Wilderness sees the horizon, and on this rocket they head straight for it. Never mind that it disappears as they get closer, always out of reach - what matters is the pursuit; there is joy in knowing that it won't ever be still.

"Pacific Palisades" is a slow burner - the soundtrack of a California beach under a long dusk. There is some sadness there, maybe, but it maintains the knowledge that the sun will rise again. You get in your car, head south on the Pacific Coast Highway, the lights of Malibu up ahead. Everything feels immense, it's like the summer night air has been made solid, and it emits the hum of "Pacific Palisades."

These songs are the celluloid preview to Desolation Wilderness' second full length album, New Universe, which will be released by K in August. The single, part of K's International Pop Underground series, was recorded by the band at Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia Washington: tubes glowing, tape echoing, guitars chiming.

Swooning guitars, found sounds, synthesizer trills, forward percussion and dream vocals; New Universe is the second full-length album by Desolation Wilderness. After touring the country extensively, this album is the labor of a restless engine; postcards from being constantly on the move.

New Universe alternates between lonely sounds and the euphoria of freedom and distance - like an empty, foggy beach in the early morning. These songs have a particular movement, whether it's the sun-drenched strut of "Boardwalk Theme" or a barefoot sandy run on "Venice Beach." There are themes of escape and renewal, in leaving behind youth. The world is a vast and beautiful place, but also dangerous - full of doomed, overpowering love ("You Hold a Power Over Me") and night-walking loners ("San Francisco 2AM").

Desolation Wilderness meets the listener on the edge of the ocean, where the horizon meets the water in a perfect line. Without searching, this New Universe finds you ("No Tomorrow"). New Universe was recorded at the Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, Washington after returning home. Desolation Wilderness will tour the United States and the UK in the fall of 2009. With the windows down.
